Mr. Ndegwa was born in 1925 in Nyeri District. He was born and bred an African under the sacred shrine of Kirinyaga, a proud son
of Mother Africa, Gikuyu na Mumbi parents of Mathingira Kenda . He joined the Public Service in 1956 as an Economist/Statistician and was appointed Permanent Secretary, Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Public Service in 1963 where he served until he was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya in 1967 and reappointed four times. During his entire career, Mr. Ndegwa rendered distinguished service in many areas, holding key positions in government, banking and other national organizations during which time he initiated fiscal and monetary policies that spurred economic growth. He continues to support the needy and charitable courses and also engages in business in his retirement. He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH) for his distinguished and meritorious service rendered to the nation.
